Hasankyef is a wonderful village with honey-colored stone houses. It is located in a narrow gorge crossed by river Tigris. Because of a dike project it could disappear overflowed by water. Before the Ottoman kingdom Hasankyef was an important trade center: you can see the ruins of a large bridge connecting the two banks of the river. The citadel ruins dominate the village: all around it there are caves in the rock which were uses as houses in the past. Hasankyef is also named little Cappadocia.
