When you hear about Turkey you think about Istanbul. No doubt! If Ankara is the capital and the administrative and political seat of the country Istanbul is the history. It is a city that has seen a large number of conquerors, from the Greeks to the Romans, from the Seljuks to the Ottomans. Constantinople was its name during the Byzantine Empire. Each one of them left traces which are today an artistic and cultural treasure for Turkey. The city is charming and romantic: its position on the Bosphorurs, split between Europe and Asia is unique in the world. This collection of images was taken in Summer 2010, when the city was European capital of culture. Among the most famous spots there are the Blue Mosque, Sancta Sophia basilica, The Grand Bazar. Istanbul is also important for shipping thanks to its startegical position and its natural harbour named Golden Horn.
