Lavagna is a small seaside village close Chiavari and Sestri Levante. Its name come from the many slate cave situated in the inland which are used to make blackboards. In the Middle Age actor it was an important center where the noble Fieschi family had its residence. Lavagna is famous for the "Fieschi cake" an annual event that occurs on 14th August to remember the marriage between Opizzo Fiesco and Bianca de' Bianchi: the tradition says that they offered a largecake to the people.
