Macao, or Macau in Portugal, is located 65 kilometres west from Hong Kong, just an hour by hydrofoil. It was founded in 1557 at the end of the Pearl river as reward for having taken away pirates from the surrounding sea. It was a Portugal colony until 1999 when it was given back to China becoming a special administrative region as Hong Kong. Today it is famous for its casino Macao that attract many gamblers, but it offers also nice walking in the downtown Macao, good food and pleasing views. Here there are pictures of the downtown Macao, of the bizarre casino Macao an of panoramas taken from the Mount Fortress.
