Mardin and Midyat are two villages located in the south-west of the country, close to Syrian borders. This region is named Mesopotamia. Here the first kingdoms of the human history developed: the Babylonians, the Sumerians, the Assyrians. The richness of this land was strictly connected to two rivers flowing here: the Tigris and the Euphrates river. Being so close to Syria both Mardin and Midyat reflect the peculiarities of this country: small and squared houses made of honey-colored stone. Old Mardin is built at the top of a hill, facing the sunny Mesopotamian flat; walking along narrow alleys and steeply stairs you can see women working and children playing.
