Otranto is the most eastern city in Italy. The past is still alive in the many traces left by the conquerors: Roman, Byzantine, Norman, Aragonese marks are spread everywhere. The cathedral floor is a beautiful mosaic with scenes of the Bible; here there is an altar to remember the 800 Christians killed by the Turk in 1480. The Castello Aragonese is a defensive structure surrounded by a moat. The city offers natural beauties, too: the coast is both rocky and sandy. According to the southern way of life in Summer, because of the hot temperature, the city sleeps until 5 p.m.and than get lively until late at night. There are images taken during the patron festival on 15th August: the whole city center is decorated with lights. Like Cisternino and Locorotondo is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
