Rila

Rila monastery is settled in the heart of Rila mountains 120 km far from Sofia; it is the most famous Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria founded by Saint John of Rila in the 10th century. It is totally made of lumber; the inner court is occupied by the church which has beautiful painting inside; wooden stairway lead to the upper floor where there are the monks' cells and rooms where the pilgrims can sleep. To enter the monastery there are two gate that are closed at 8 pm till the morning after.
