If you look at Italy as a peninsula with the shape of a boot, Apulia is the heel and Santa Maria di Leuca is located at the top of it. It is a summer village that in winter gets sleepy, but from June to August it is very lively. The coast is wonderful, high and rocky; there are often ruins of old tower built in the past to sight the Turks who despoiled the villages. The water is warm and very clean: snorkelling is high recommended! There are panoramic views of Santa Maria di Leuca taken from the sanctuary, built at the top of a hill dominating the bay: you can reach it climbing a long stair located close to the port.
