The agapanthus, or lily of the Nile, is in the family of liliaceae, though it has been also put in the family of Alliaceae. It is a perennial herbaceous shrub native to South Africa. It is characterized by long stems, curved leaves and blue, purple or white cone-like cluster of flowers. It is cultivated for ornamental use.
