altostratus

Altostratus clouds have the shape of a veil covering the sky but leaving the sun shining through it. They are darker than cirrostratus but lighter than nimbostratus. They are similar to stratus clouds but develop in medium atmosphere. They are formed by ice crystal, for this reason they can be dangerous for airplane causing ice deposits on the wings.
