
The araucaria is a pinaceae trees in the family of Araucariaceae that is diffused in South America, Oceania, New Zealand, but is also found in the Mediterranean forest area. The name comes from the Arauco Indians who are native to Chile and Argentina. It is considered a living fossil since many species date back to the dinosaur age. These trees are characterized by large male and female pine cone that are often found on separate trees. Some species are cultivated for timber production and edible seeds. Many images are taken in New Zealand and Italy.
