Venice is the city of bridges: being built in a lagoon the islands on which the city has developed are joined by pedestrian bridges. car can't circulate so the only way to move around and sightsee is walking and crossing hundreds of pedestrian bridges. The Grand Canal is crossed by long bridges, the most important of them is Rialto Bridge. The Bridge of Suspire is close to San Marco square and takes name from the fact that prisoners, passing through before of being executed, took their last suspire looking at Venice.
