The cherry tree is in the family of rosaceae trees, sub-family Prunoideae; it is native to Europe and south-western Asia. The lumber is appreciated to produce furniture. There are many species that are cultivated for their edible cherry such as the prunus cerasus. In spring white flowers bloom and in early summer red, small, round cherries ripe on the branches.
