A cicada is an insects of the order Hemiptera with small eyes wide apart on the head and transparent well-veined wings. It lives in temperate and tropical forest climates. Males have an organ producing an high-pitched drone which is especially hearable in summer. Since the cicada seems to spend much part of the day singing it has become a symbol of laziness.
