Cirrus are formed by frozen water vapour into ice crystal at 8000 feet of altitude. Their common name is mare's tail. They can announce a storm or can also be the remnants of a thunderstorm. There are photos of cirrus taken during the sunset: the colour change from pink to orange, from yellow to violet like being a painting.
