The coconut palm belongs to the family of arecaceae trees; it grows to 30 meters tall and has leaves 4-6 meters long. It is cultivated for ornamental and alimentary use. It is diffused in Tonga areas where the climate is warm and humid. It is common to see coconut palm along the beach since they tolerate salinity. The name was given by the explorer Vasco De Gama: when he first saw these seeds he found them resembling a ghost because of the brown and hairy surface (coco means ghost in castillan).
