
A praying mantis, or praying mantid, is an insect of the family Mantidae whose name comes from the way it holds its front legs. It is mostly a tropical forest or India insects, but several species live in temperate climates such as in Italy. It has long green body and large eyes. Mantis are predatory animals; cannibalism occurs during copulation when the female turns the head to eat the male.
