ostrya

The ostrya is a genus of deciduous trees belonging to the betulaceae trees whose common name is hophornbeam or ironwood. It is native to Europe, Asia and America; in spring it produces male and female catkins. The name comes from the Greece word for bone since the lumber is very hard.
