The phormium tenax is an evergreen plants in the family of agavaceae native to New Zealand. It is named harakeke in Rotorua. It has the aspect of a large bush formed by strap like green leaves long up to two meters. It is cultivated as decorative plants, but it also gives a natural fibre. In summer white or pink flowers bloom if the temperature is warm enough and the plants grows directly in the agriculture and not in a vase.
