silversword

The silversword is in the family of asteraceae. It is a composite plants native to Hawaii, in particular Maui. These pictures are taken on Haleakala volcano in Maui. It is characterized by long lanceolate leaves with silvery hairs. It dies after blooming: In the photos you can see the tall raceme formed by many reddish or purplish flowers.
