stratus

Stratus clouds develop below 2000 m and form a sort of white or gray veil covering the sky. They have an horizontal development and a uniform base other than convective clouds like cumulus. They often form when fog rises or cold air moves down towards lower altitudes. They usually don't bring precipitation. Many pictures are taken from the airplane in fact a sea of white clouds is seen from above.
