Saint Sophie

Hagia Sophia (in Turkish Aya Sofya and in Latin Sancta Sophia) was an Ortodox church during the Bizantine Empire (it was built by Emperor Justinian). It was converted into a mosque and now it is a museum. The huge dome was built using special bricks coming from Rodhos: this structure is so light because it is not substained by columns. Inside there are beautiful mosaics that show both religious images than portraits of the Byzantine emperors. Close to Hagia Sophia there is the Basilic Water Tank, a large tank used to collect water for the Great Palace of the Bizantine Emperor.
