duck male

This gorgeous male duck floats on vivid blue pond water so perfectly calm that his reflection is nearly as clear and saturated as the bird himself. Male ducks are referred to in common parlance as drakes, whereas females are typically called ducks without any modifying terms attached. Ducks are known for staying resolutely dry, even when on water. As you can see in this photograph, the male duck’s breast feathers are shimmering from water coming into contact with the bird’s oily residue, though the feathers appearing from the mid section to the bird’s rear are completely dry and magnificently well maintained.
