Iridaceae is a plants family taking name from the Latin word for rainbow since these flowers are very colourful. It includes freesia, iris and gladiolus. Iris is characterised by sword-like leaves, three petals and three sepals. These perennial, herbaceous and bulbous plants are used for decoration but there are also eatable species and others with medical use.
